Award-winning magazine is looking for a talented mid-career business journalist to join our management team. Help take the construction industry's top multi-platform resource to into new areas of digital publishing in a job that includes both national and international travel. Bring to life the most important and revealing people, companies, events and ideas-including news from Washington, D.C., to the Gulf Coast and from Dubai to Haiti-and make a difference in the world. TheManaging Editor, Integrated Mediawill be primarily responsible for integrating the ENR enterprise online, in print and at events as the premiere source of news, data, analysis and opinion that helps construction industry professionals do their jobs more effectively.
The managing editor will:
1. Help Engineering News-Record right-size its print frequency and use reader feedback to transform it into a combination of digital, multimedia and print products that best meets readers needs. Help guide ENR's print transition into more analysis and feature stories.
2. Guide ENR's feature coverage online and in print. Work with editors to develop feature ideas and to work with editors and copy editors in editing cover stories, feature stories, ENR.com features, top lists and departments.
3. Lead a team of editors working with freelancers around the world to write high-impact feature stories about global megaprojects and global construction issues for monthly digital globally focused edition.
4. Lead by example by writing feature stories on projects, events, companies and provocative industry issues. Create multimedia content to accompany those features. Travel domestically and globally to events and project sites.
5. Collaborate with editors and the art directors to create dynamic print layouts and multimedia web presentation of features including slide shows and videos.
6. Coordinate creation of ENR's data-rich top lists, quarterly cost reports and construction economics content with research and analytics team.
Engineering News-Record's managing editor, integrated media, will be a key contributor in producing useful, high-impact content for ENR's website, print magazine, e-newsletters and events. The ENR enterprise has 60,000 paid subscribers and will publish 36 print magazines this year. Subscribers also get full access to ENR.com, a daily news alert, and a weekly e-newsletter. ENR.com has about 145,000 unique visitors a month who view close to 1 million web pages. The managing editor, integrated media, will help guide the ENR enterprise to meet the industrys high expectations that ENR will provide useful information that is accurate, timely and produced with integrity across its multiple media.
The successful candidate with have:
* College degree or equivalent knowledge base
* Seven to ten years experience on a high frequency publication or equivalent knowledge base
* Ability to drive change in content, graphics and work flow
* Creative thinking that leads to innovative problem-solving
* High-level reporting, writing and editing skills
* Strong journalistic and graphics judgment
* Ability to communicate well with editors, freelancers, art directors and business staff
* Ability to supervise
* Ability to advocate for the needs of the products
* Knowledge of digital products, how to produce and use them
* Some knowledge of the construction industry
* Ability to uphold McGraw-Hills high standards of ethics and integrity
* Ability to work efficiently in the ever-changing digital environment
* Be able to build talent among editors and freelancers
