The Senior Application Engineer will be responsible for enterprise-wide application standards, patterns and lifecycle. This includes: researching new products and changes/updates/patches for existing products - develop and define configuration, packaging and deployment standards as well as HA and DR strategies - development of product and web technology patterns - testing and evaluating standards and patterns - writing technical documentation - Level 3 support of products, standards and patterns. This will result in maintaining and improving engineering process, alignment with PBR standards and meeting the needs of the customer in a cost-effective and sustainable manner.
Responsibilities:
Oversee product lifecycle for identified application technology products:
* Interpret industry trends to ascertain appropriate optimization of product catalog, driving cost savings and efficiencies in the support model.
* Work with business segments to identify current issues and emerging needs.
* Identify and introduce new products to meet business trends and demand, analyzing impact and integration of new products; steer new products through discovery, testing and approvals process for adoption while managing the retirement of declining technologies.
* Manage, refresh and optimize the product catalog available to Solutions Engineering required for solutions development.
* Steer new products through discovery, testing and approvals process for adoption including the preparation and presentation of design, build, presentation and architectural materials.
* Influence development teams on product lifecycle adoption.
* Influence business segments on product lifecycle adoption and emerging trends.
* Develop reference architecture and implementation standards for identified products.
* Develop and manage vendor relationships for NDA, product roadmaps, emerging server technologies.
* Develop Operating Level Agreements, while ensuring alignment to Service Level Agreements.
Develop runbooks and other documentation to meet Operational handover requirements, ensuring quality and content standards are met
Provide support to the Solutions Engineering team towards designing solutions to meet project requirements.
Study product usage in the enterprise to identify cost reduction opportunities and directs projects to rationalize the product footprint in the enterprise. Champion efforts to identify and correct inconsistent deployment of approved products.
Develop and maintain service offerings for approved products with a keen focus on generating efficiencies in the usage of technology resources.
Develop BAU and project budgets for application technologies.
Provide Level 3 Engineering Support for Production Support.
Secondary accountabilities:
Promote the implementation and adoption of key PBR processes, specifically in the Build Organization.
Collaborate closely with other Infrastructure Engineering Teams to build and maintain Infrastructure Integration Testing Environment.
Develop methods to create repeatable and efficient procedures to deploy approved products.
Work Closely with the Solutions Engineering team to educate as well as guide them through the installation, configuration and management of standard products and patterns
Cross-train peer engineers on SME technologies, and seek training in peer SME technologies
Develop frameworks and best practices for disaster recovery and high availability application design, DMZ application hosting and test environment specifications that can be applied consistently to application deployments
Significant expertise (8 to 10 years) in defining, designing and deploying global business applications with both internal and external customer focus
Significant expertise and experience in defining philosophy and principles for global engineering in application technologies.
Significant expertise with web and middleware application environments
Core Technologies Include:
* Weblogic (Clustering, J2EE, Apache, Unix, Linux and Windows)
* Middleware (Business Objects, Tibco, OIM/OAM, E-Rights, Crystal Reports, HP Applications, Cognos, EDX, FAST, Clustering )
* Application Platform (Weblogic, Clustering, J2EE, Apache, Unix, Linux and Windows)
* .NET (.Net framework, Clustering, C# and VB, IIS, Windows
Shell, Python or Pearl scripting experience to automate tasks and procedures
Experience in Unix, Linux and Windows environments
