Standard & Poor's is seeking a Director of Application Development to be a key player in the analysis, design, development and support of a Real-time Index Calculation Platform. This role requires a seasoned technologist, who works effectively, both independently, as well as collaboratively in a team environment to design & implement mission critical real-time applications. The candidate must be a delivery-focused person with solid financial applications experience and skills. The candidate will report to the Vice President of Application Architecture & Development.
The responsibilities also include:

Architect, design and develop industry-leading applications for S&P's 24x7 Global Real-time Index calculation Platform.
*
Hands-on design & development for building multi-threaded Java applications for real-time computing and data distribution.
*
Lead new initiatives and manage on-going application maintenance for the Index business.
*
Interface real-time applications with external market data providers and distributors.
*
Design & Implement solutions for distributed application & database integration.
*
Design & Implement solutions for high speed & low latency messaging and data caching.
*
Build monitoring system for critical real-time index calculation processes, system health and connections to market data sources, stock exchanges and vendor-partners
*
Design highly available & fault-tolerant applications to withstand failures.
*
Perform Application & System Performance tuning.
*
Define system, network infrastructure, bandwidth requirements for real-time index calculation systems.
*
Liaison with vendor-partners and data hosting providers for technical issues.
*
Executing proof of concepts on new products & technologies.
*
Work with architects to define and adapt architectures to the project portfolio.
*
Produce system design documents and participate in technical walkthroughs.
*
Respond to critical production issues and provide immediate workarounds to maintain business continuity.
*
Analyze high level business needs and come up with innovative & cost effective solutions
*
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Engineering is required, or in lieu, a demonstrated equivalence in work experience; MS in Computer Science desirable.
*
Eight to ten years experience as a technical lead responsible for developing applications for the financial industry.
*
Experience with real-time calculation systems and high-speed/low latency systems.
*
Strong experience in designing solutions for scalable multi-tier enterprise applications.
*
Strong experience with application & database performance tuning.
*
Strong hands-on experience in software development in a Linux, Java/J2EE, Oracle Database environment.
*
Strong hands-on experience with core Java in a multi-threaded environment.
*
Experience in Java application integration using JMS messaging.
*
Experience in Web application development with Java/J2EE and Hibernate, Flex.
*
Strong Oracle database, PL/SQL, stored procedures, SQL optimization skills.
*
Experience in deployments on Weblogic Server for J2EE or Adobe Flex applications.
*
Experience with XML for data integration and XSLT for data transformation.
*
Experience with different Operating Systems - Red Hat Linux, Sun Solaris and Windows XP.
*
Proficiency in the development environment, including IDE, web server, application server, source control system, unit-testing tool and defect management tool.
*
Experience with Financial applications such as Index/Benchmarks or Asset Management or Portfolio Investment modeling.
*
Experience with Market Data such as Equity, Commodities, Forex, Options asset classes.
*
Experience with market data or exchange data dissemination protocols.
*
Familiarity with off-the-shelf real-time products and system development strategies.
*
Understanding of the criticalness of meeting customer real-time SLAs.
*
Hands-on experience in troubleshooting production issues.
*
Exceptional communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills.
*
